Real Estate Agent Search: Finding "The One"
As Business Insider reported earlier this month, it looks like we may see mortgage rates continue to come down. Unfortunately, that does not mean that they will magically return to the 2% to 3% range. However, experts predict somewhere in the low 6% area over the next few months. So if you want to take advantage of these lower rates to purchase a home, you need to find yourself a good real estate agent right now.
Real Estate Agent Search: Finding "The One"
In the past, we talked about some of the aspects of finding the right agent (determining your priorities, getting referrals, asking about their experience, and checking their license). Here are a few more things that should help you with your search to finding "the one".
Interview, Interview, Interview
For most people, buying a home is the largest monetary investment they will ever make in their lifetime. So, you want to find a person that you feel extremely comfortable with handling your transaction. Therefore, interview as many people as you need to before deciding who to put in charge of this very important purchase. And ask them any questions you feel are important. That should include their particular areas of expertise.
Check Out Their Reviews
One of the best ways to find a great agent is by the experiences of their past clients. Read testimonials. Ask agents for references. Then, follow up with those references. Perform a quick Google search for both the agent and their brokerage. Learn as much as you can about whomever you interview.
Personality Matters
Finally, you want someone whose personality meshes with yours. Again, a home purchase may very well be the largest investment you make. Make sure that their communication style works for you. For example, you may want to hear from them a couple of times a week. Maybe you prefer text to phone calls. Or a weekly in-person meet-up. Do you like your agent to be more business-like or would you rather have someone more light-hearted? The only way to know whether or not this will work out is to really talk to them before you sign a contract.
